Volunteers in Sports: Moving towards a future-oriented Society

You would like to volunteer to get involved in the world of sports? And at the same time take pleasure and gain new skills? Skills which enrich and simplify life? For yourself, your organisation, institution or your company?

Background: The honorary position, i.e. the voluntary engagement of citizens, is becoming increasingly more important nowadays.
More than 40% of Germans over the age of 14 are active volunteers, of which five million are in the field of sport and exercise. (Volunteer survey 2014). This "voluntary commitment" does, however, not only require their commitment, it also enriches their players. People need social participation. The voluntary engagement therefore also provides an opportunity to actively integrate into society and take responsibility.
The acceptance of voluntary engagements, in particular in sport should, however, not be conceived as a task only for citizens. Companies, organisations and institutions can likewise share responsibility and make an active contribution to civil society. At the same time, they also benefit from an attractive external radiation.

Volunteering is worthwhile - The Walter Schulz Prize in the District of Herford

There are people who make a mark: Walter Schulz

In the District of Herford, volunteering in sport is inextricably linked with the name Walter Schulz.
Walter Schulz volunteered with KSB Herford for around 35 years. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 88. He always advocated the interests of the sport, sportsmen and sportswomen as well as clubs.

His unforgettable way of fighting for sport and the extent of his decade-long involvement will (probably) remain unrivalled. He was awarded, among others also with the sports badge of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Order of Merit First Class of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Walter Schulz Prize: Because volunteering in the District of Herford shall continue to be worthwhile

To preserve and honour the memory of the life's work of this man, who many will certainly still remember, the committee of the Herford District Sport Association has decided to create a "Walter Schulz Prize". In the spirit of the deceased, this prize has been awarded since 2015 to particularly deserving individual persons or sports clubs. This prize is financed via a fund that has been established for this purpose and which is financed entirely from donations.
